Three Reasons to go LED in a Samsung TV

Have you ever been wondering what it is that makes all that much of a difference between LED and TFT TVs? Well, first of all, their name of course. LED TVs are aptly described in their name, they use light emitting diodes for backlight generation. TFT tvs are not well described in their name, because they’re just as well TFT as any LED TV is, the difference is that these use fluorescent light tubes to produce their backlight.

The consequences are bigger than just another way of making the white light that then filters through the same TFT panel. LED TVs are better in energy efficiency, color representation and longevity.

Energy efficiency is up by 40% in certain Samsung LED TVs, so the higher initial cost is not wasted money, but an investment. You pay more up-front, and get it back, and more, through reduced electricity bills. It’s interesting though, as fluorescent lamps are more efficient in high-power applications, such as room or public lighting. LEDs only keep up with them and surpass them in the mid-range, where TVs, displays and small desk lamps are.

It’s important to know, that LEDs emit a much better white light than fluorescent lamps. Better in the sense that it’s closer to the optimal white spectrum and thus allows for more accurately calibrated and tuned TFT panels. It results in better color representation, contrast ratio and ultimately, a better viewing experience. To see what degree of difference is there, visit a local store where they have some models on display.

Longevity can’t be any better than it is at the moment in certain Samsung TV models. Some of them are rated at 100,000 hours, which is 90 years of 3 hours of operation a day, or 12 years non-stop. There are LEDs made in the 70′s that are still in operation, which, considering the technology available at that time, lets us assume the LEDs made today are likely to keep on working for at least this long.

It’s not to say that all LED Samsungs are worth getting, so keep your eyes open. As a general rule of thumb, LED models tend to be better than TFTs, but without further knowledge about resolution and other features, I’d not part with any money. Always read the tech specs page, and unsolicited reviews to get a clearer picture of what’s worth it and what isn’t.

A Little About The Digital Video Recorder

Technology has made a lot of things more convenient and more fun for us. Decades ago when the VHS was released, there was much fanfare over it. It allows you to record your favourite shows so you can watch it whenever you want. The DVD and the DVR has almost the same functions as the old VHS but unlike the VHS, a DVD isn’t that bulky. A VHS may not be that bulky if you’re storing only a couple of films but if you’re an enthusiast, this may really post a problem. You’ll find yourself covered with piles of tapes that will threaten t bury you alive. A DVR or Digital Video Recorder is a level up among its predecessors. It basically stores files in a hard drive. It’s a small gadget has a big memory. This is great for storing your films because it won’t take shelves full. But unlike the VHS that uses an internal menu, the DVR is a remote server. It means you need to have an internet connection to save your favourite films.

There are a lot of advantages for DVR users. It has an all together better quality image capture. You can bet your dollar’s worth that you’ll only watch quality films with it. You can also transfer or store your files on a DVD or CD-Rom/RW. Like I said, it’s the same with the VHS but on a much handy and space efficient way. A DVD is a flat disk. You won’t have to worry about it consuming too much space like the standard VHS. Plus, your DVD can store a ton more compare to a VHS. You can store the whole episode of Star Wars in just a single DVD. How’s that for efficiency?

With your shows pre-recorded, you don’t have to deal with those time consuming commercials. You can easily click fast forward or even rewind it to your favourite scene. The only bad thing with a no fee DVR recorded is that in only saves in standard format. There isn’t an upgraded version that can support a High Definition Television of it in the market yet so we have to contend with a standard record for now.

Should You Buy a Cheap HDTV From a Strange Brand?

When buying a high definition television it is very important that you buy a quality product. The world of high definition televisions is very different to the world of conventional sets. There is a difference when you compare products of lower and higher quality especially in terms of how good or bad the picture looks. You have to be very careful if you are thinking about buying a cheap HDTV or it may cost you in the end.

Avoid buying the cheapest set that you find if you do not have and idea about how the set performs especially if that budget set has an LCD screen. It is a curious fact that many of these budget sets do in fact have LCD screens. The problem is that many of them are manufactured by brands that are not well known and what little reputation they have is usually bad.

Stick to the known brands and do not settle for less. Some of the best manufacturers of good HD Tvs also manufacture budget sets that offer good quality. Brands like: SONY, Vizio, Panasonic, Sharp and Samsung have some very good products in the market that are affordable, so before you buy a product by a strange company check out if there are any sets from these companies that you can buy instead. This way you can be sure than the product is made with quality components and that it will give a good performance for many years.

The most important thing that you have to keep in mind when you go out to buy a high definition Tv is quality. Since the difference between HD and conventional Tv is that exact same aspect, quality. It is better to buy a smaller screen with a better quality than a bigger one that looks horrible or one that you will have to replace in a year or two at most.
