Dish and Direct TV Promotions
The big satellite TV companies are continuing to fight fierce competition. For many years, they had to worry about not only each other but the competitive offers coming from cable television companies. Now in many areas there is a third competitor, as local telephone companies have begun to offer their own cable TV service. The main players are Verizon and AT&T, as each have developed methods of offering video service in combination with DSL and home phone service.
But the satellite companies continue to grow, and the big reason is the fat promotional offers they give out to new subscribers. From the customers point of view, even though there is a two year contract with satellite TV service, it is worth it to get the deeply discounted rate during the first year. So what kind of deals and promotions can you get in 2010?
The latest round of Direct TV promotions give the customer a $29 discount off of their normal package price for the first 12 months of service. For a mid-tier package like the Choice Xtra offer, this means instead of paying $63.99 a month, you only pay $34.99 each billing cycle. Of course you need to remember that this is only for one television set, and does not include DVR or high definition service. Adding up all of the fees beforehand will give you a better hold on what your bill will really look like.
The latest Dish Network offer is a continuation of what they were giving out in 2009. They have a $15 discount on all of their packages except for the entry level Dish Family bundle. While not as generous as Direct TV, the pricing from Dish is a bit lower overall so you will not be paying as much once you get out of the promotional period. Dish Network now also includes the local channels in their packages instead of charging a $5 fee separately.
