Gutter Cleaning Made Easy

Most people think that cleaning their gutters out twice a year is a huge chore and they do not enjoy doing it. You have to drag out the ladder and perch precariously on it while you stretch to try and fish out leaves and disgusting debris from your gutter system. However, there is a piece of gutter cleaning equipment that will make the job much easier. With this single tool, you can stand on the ground, clean out leaves and large debris, and rinse your gutters clean. Sounds amazing!

A gutter cleaning wand with the right characteristics can make this a reality. The gutter wand will need three attributes. First, it will need to extend long enough to reach your gutters. Most gutter cleaning wands are stored at a length of three to five feet. Either by pulling out extension pieces like a tripod or turning the rod, you can extend the length of the tools to up to twenty feet.

Second, the wand will need an attachment on the end that look similar to a large pair of tweezers. With a trigger at the bottom you will be able to pinch the tweezers together and pick up handfuls of leaves and debris. Your next step is to lower the wand and deposit the leaves in a trash bag or on the ground. I find it easier to just deposit them on the ground so I do not have to shorten the wand or walk to the end in between each grab. I can then collect all the trash at the end.

Third, the wand should be able to be attached to a garden hose and have a nozzle at the end where water sprays out under pressure and be able to reach the guttering. The high pressure water will rinse out any small debris that is missed by the grabber and the dirty water will just run to your downspouts. The better gutter cleaning tools will have an adjustable nozzle where you can change the direction or force of the stream of water.

There is one problem with this type of gutter cleaning equipment. You cannot see what you are working on. If you are standing on the ground then you cannot see if you get all of the debris and remove all of the clogs. Some people may feel it is better to work up at the level of the gutters so that they can see the results of their work. If you decide to work on a ladder or scaffolding, you can still use the wand, just do not extend it.
