Plumbing For Your Bathroom Remodel

A bathroom remodel can be a very expensive project. However, much of this type of project can be handled by the homeowner. Many people are perfectly capable of projects such as installing vanities and painting. However, many people are scared to death of plumbing. Performing your own plumbing on a bathroom remodel can save quite a bit of money on the project. Basic plumbing skills are easy to learn and can be found in a variety of different places. To complete the plumbing on your next bathroom remodel simply learn some basic plumbing skills and follow a detailed plan.

One of the best places to get a grasp on basic plumbing skills are local home improvement stores. Many of these stores will hold workshops which focus on basic plumbing skills. They will inform you of what types of tools will be needed and how to work with basic materials. These courses are usually free and are offered as a public service to encourage people to tackle more projects on their own, in turn allowing the store to sell more merchandise. These courses will allow you to experience hands-on plumbing to help with the learning experience. I myself have taught many of these courses and my experience as a longtime Alpharetta plumber gives many attendees the confidence they need to handle the project themselves.

Another great place for plumbing projects is the Internet. No matter what the project is, there is a step-by-step plan somewhere on the Internet. Sites such as YouTube will have numerous videos detailing a variety of plumbing projects. Videos are great as they allow you to visually see everything going on, and there is nothing lost in translation of reading text. However, there are a number of great step-by-step plans on projects in text form which are quite easy to understand with many detailed pictures.

Before starting your plumbing project make sure to make a detailed plan. Decide what plumbing projects will be needed and research each of these projects individually. Sketch out an outline of what needs to be accomplished in what order to complete the project.

How to Waterproof a Basement

When it comes to basements there is one thing you can be pretty sure about, at some point it is going to start getting water in it. If you rarely use this space then this normally is not anything but a nuisance, but if you wish to remodel your basement it quickly becomes a major problem. Not to worry though, getting and keeping water out of your home has never been easier. Lets look at a few of the best options available today for basement waterproofing.

The first thing you need to do is figure how bad the moisture problem is. A condensation problem will be dealt differently from a water pooling problem for instance. Once you have looked over the areas for problems then you can decide how much of a budget you have to spend on this project. Low budget projects will be best off with some hand dug outside drainage and a moisture blocker for instance.

If you only have a condensation problem you can begin by cleaning the affected area and preparing for a water blocking paint. Follow the instructions for application and apply as many coats as possible or recommended by the manufacturer. After you have applied this product you can install a dehumidifier in the area to remove any extra moisture in the air. If you follow these steps and still have water problems it is time to move on to the next step.

For larger water entrance and pooling you will need to begin your work outside the home. Clean all of the gutters and fix all broken or mis-hung areas. Be sure that all downspouts are directing the water far away from your foundation as well. Once you have take care of this you should install a french drain in the areas that seem to be collecting the most water, you may also wish to bring all landscaping up to grade and sloping away from the house as well.

Once you finished these projects your water problems should be gone. If you continue to have any water entrance into your home at this point it would be best to call in a specialist. They will be able to find the source of the problem and eliminate it!
