Even though portable printers are made with portability as its main concern, it doesn’t mean that they cannot do jobs that are meant for desktop printers. There are institutions that consider portable printers for different uses in order to capitalize on its strength as a portable printer as well as its capability to produce fine prints. Schools are one of these institutions. In a school’s perspective, an HP portable printer is just as good as any desktop printer, with additional benefits.
That is not to say that all portable printers are capable of producing fine prints. To be more particular, HP portable printers are portable printers that are as good as any desktop printers. Most portable printers from HP are capable of printing at very high resolution. As an example, we have the HP OfficeJet H470 WBT, the latest HP portable printer. This printer can print as high as 4800 x 1200 dots per inch. Printing documents with this resolution is never a problem. What you need to ask is, “Is it capable of printing pictures?” And the answer is yes. In order for a printer to be great for printing pictures, it needs to print at resolutions that far exceed the requirements for printing text. So if a printer is good for printing pictures, it’s safe to say that it is good for printing texts as well.
What makes this printer great for school use is that anyone at school can utilize this printer. Its size is comfortable enough to carry so that anyone, even female teachers won’t have a hard time carrying this printers. It weighs less than 5lbs. At this weight, even small students are capable of handling this gadget. It also has printer sleeves available in computer stores so that you don’t have to worry with it being accidentally dropped or bumped. While it remains a school property, it can be taken anywhere in the school especially in the classrooms. You don’t have to look for outlets since this printer can print 480 pages, equivalent to a short ream of paper.
Another feature, which makes it very convenient for most people at school to use, is its additional features such as USB printing and wireless connectivity. Both features offer you the capability to print documents without a computer. Most students and teachers these days have their own flash disk with them. If not, they have their own set of mobile gadgets which allow them to interface with this printer. Having this capability at school is very useful at times when you’re in a hurry.
Not all HP portable printers are capable of such feat. Of course, other models from HP are designed for printing photos instead of documents. This is to cater to a different market. However, if you want something that is capable of printing documents and photos, go with the OfficeJet H470. There are other models as well that are capable of offering the same features and capabilities, such as the DeskJet 460C.
Laser printers are a lot more useful in many ways compared to inkjet printers. The inkjet printers will always have the advantage when it comes to their costs. However, laser printers have more to offer in terms of printing cost, the incredible speed, the quality of prints, crispness of texts, and to top it all, they can now print in color. Colored printing was monopolized by inkjet printers until 1993 when QMS introduced colored laser printers. A year after that, HP released their own colored laser printer. However, up until now, there is not yet a single portable laser printer that can offer all that desktop laser printers can offer. In order to know more about the advantages of portable laser printers, we will be referring to the Samsung ML-1630 Monochrome Laser Printer since it is the closest thing to a portable laser printer.
Portability
The primary advantage of a portable laser printer is its portability. By incorporating all the primary features of a laser printer into one manageable package, you can enjoy the benefits of having a laser printer wherever you are. However, at this point in time, the only existing laser printer of small size is the Samsung ML-1630 which has dimensions of 13.1” x 14.8” x 4.7”. With this size, it is very hard to slip them inside bags. You will need a separate bag for this printer if you intend to bring it along with you on your trips. The perfect portable laser printer should be smaller than this. It should be on par with the existing portable inkjet printers where they almost have the same size as laptops.
Speed
One of the primary advantages of laser printers over inkjet printers is speed. Inkjet printers can go as high as printing 60 plus pages in one minute. However, laser printers can go as high as 200 in a minute. It is no surprise why laser printing has always been the primary choice when mass-producing documents, books or newsletters. If this speed is incorporated into portable printers, then you can take that advantage wherever you go.
Low Printing Costs
Another reason why laser printing is the primary choice when creating tons of copies is the printing cost. Not counting the initial cost of the printer, a page will cost no more than two tenths of a cent using a laser printer. Laser printer cartridges yield as high as a few thousand pages unlike ink cartridges that are rated at hundreds.
Quality of Prints
Nothing beats the laser printer when it comes to accuracy. Ink is transferred to the paper depending on the placement of electrons. Since electrons are known to be so small, great accuracy is expected. Plus, the ink being used in laser printing is dry so blotting is avoided. Inkjet printers increase their accuracy by decreasing the size of the ink droplets. However, whatever small size it may be, if the paper used is very absorbent, blotting will still occur.
It is too bad that there is not yet a portable laser printer that has all these qualities of a laser printer plus the portability. However, it is only a matter of time when it will be created. And when that time comes, you’ll expect them to be still more expensive than portable inkjet printers.
